10 TRENDS THAT NEED TO RETIRE IN 2017
It’s 2017 and we are supposed to stop doing and following stupid things on the internet and move forward. 2016 was a wreck and now it’s about time we lay out certain trends for greener pasture.
Here 10 trends that need to retire in 2017:
10. SNAPCHAT FILTERS
Snapchat filters have gone way out of hand. The utter and sheer madness over the dog ear filter and the flower crown? This trend shouldn’t have started in the first place. With changing filters every day, Snapchat provides a variety of most strange, weird and “not sure why they are even there” filters.
9. THE RETURN OF CHOKERS
This one made a return from the 90’s, which at first was cute but then trend became an obsession for the millennials. Everything and anything became chokers. Let’s face it they were itchy and uncomfortable, can we leave the chokers for the nineties itself?
8. UNICORN EVERYTHING
From hair color to Starbucks frappuccinos, the unicorn trend was on steroids. Unicorn has become the ultimate mascot for a generation that’s struggling with “adulting”. It’s horrible and gross and makes everything look like cotton candy or bubblegum or things a toddler would buy.
Hashtags started from Twitter and caught on early to Instagram, but the difference remains, where hashtags were used to label posts or show support for a certain cause it easily became silly and overdone. People started using hashtags left, right, center; Facebook became a victim of hashtags which by the way is useless. Please stop this douchebaggery. #IBegYou
6. SLANGS AND ACRONYMS
The slang culture has caught up fast. Words like “lit”, “fam”, “dope” have become a normal part of our vocabulary, which is sad. Whereas as far as acronyms go they were used for texting and soon were added to our day to day conversations. Can we agree to leave them for text messages, please? Frankly, I don’t even understand what SWAG means.
5. GLUTEN FREE FOOD
If you do not know what gluten is then congratulations, you have been safe from cruelties of the internet. Gluten is a protein or a combination of proteins which are present in cereal grains. A gluten free diet is for the people who have been diagnosed with celiac disease. It is not a trend its a precaution for a disease. Drop it already?
4. COLD SHOULDER TOPS
This one is especially for the ladies, cold shoulder tops trend caught on like fire. For all the men out there, cold shoulder top is a regular top with holes cut out at the shoulder. I know right! Sounds ridiculous. I am no fashion expert but I cannot even think of one good reason to cut holes in a perfectly fine piece of clothing. Is it supposed to be sexy? Nobody knows.
If women have one trend in their basket, so do men. From businessmen to hipsters all men have become obsessed with their facial hair. Not only this, the beard trend has gone overboard with men’s infatuation for it and they are now braiding their beards with flowers and glitter. Let us agree that facial hair is not a sign of your masculinity, it’s just hair that grows on your face every night ON ITS OWN.
2. PREGNANCY PHOTOSHOOTS AND GENDER REVEALS
Where this trend is completely harmless and cute, we all have seen things go way wrong in such photo shoots. Pregnancy photo shoots are supposed to be empowering for women, not cracking beer jokes for men. It started as a harmless trend but now has become a mandatory check on every couple’s list of things to do. Gender reveals are equally useless, in an era of equality why does the sex of your unborn child even matter? It’s a baby, you are supposed to be happy anyway.
Saved the best for the last, didn’t I? Every celebrity, typing errors, accidents or even tragedies, the internet has made fun of all of them. Whether it’s Trump’s flying hair or SpongeBob GIF we are all guilty of enjoying these. There are serious dedicated pages and websites to creating memes, turns out this one is a job opportunity. It again points towards the generation who wants to make fun of everything, even tragedies like Harambe’s ha been its victim. Let’s just stop the madness.
