10 Things Must For A Harry Potter-Themed Cafe

We are so much in love with the story of “the Boy Who Lived that we want to visit the sets, explore the castle that forms the Hogwarts School in the movie, go the Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley and what not- but some of us are not as lucky to see it all. But, a Harry-Potter themed cafe can be a game- changer for all of us. There are some places that have opened but the things that will actually contribute to the making of the ideal Harry Potter cafe can still make our dreams come true. Here are some of the key ingredients to whip out the potion that makes the perfect HP Cafe:

10) Tables and Chairs

Remember the Great Hall? Of course you do! The Great Hall was the main place where students received their meals and daily owl post. They also had certain special events, such as the Sorting Ceremony and the Halloween Feast in that very hall. Imagine that this dreamy Harry Potter themed cafe is lined with four long tables with chairs arranged on either side of the tables. Each table will thus signify a house where people can come and sit as per their wishes to be in the four houses- Brave Gryffindors, humble Hufflepuffs, intelligent Ravenclaws or sharp Slytherines, take your pick.

9) Magical Ceiling

Once we get over with the seating arrangements, a special ceiling like the one in the movies and the books should be made, which was described as, “Harry looked upward and saw a velvety black ceiling dotted with stars […] It was hard to believe there was a ceiling there at all, and that the Great Hall didn’t simply open on to the heaven”, in the books. This is how it should be in this cafe, which should have a ceiling with a wall paper that either is changed as per the change in weather, or, if a less expensive and convenient method is to be incorporated, a simple glass ceiling. A see-through vision of the sky is exactly what they had, didn’t they?

8) Hanging Candles and Decorations

“It was lit by thousands and thousands of candles that were floating in midair over four long tables, where the rest of the students were sitting.” The Great Hall is said to be full of floating candles, and that can be done using thin but string wires to hang candle shaped lamps down the ceiling, giving it the exact aura that the movies and the books had, dimly-lit but intriguing. And just like Hogwarts was decorated as per Christmas, Halloween, etc, is how it should be in our little cafe too.

7) Utensils and Goblets

“These tables were laid with glittering golden plates and goblets.” This line must’ve jogged your memory about the lavish utensils that the Hogwarts table offered. We can’t obviously actual gold but we can use utensils that resemble those, especially with the shape of glasses that can be shown as goblets. We obviously can’t have the food reappear as the plates get empty, but we can at least manage to have a platter that resembles that of Hogwarts. Goblets, on the other hand, can be refilled easily (Don’t happy hours mean that?).

6) Marauders’ Menu

The Marauder’s Map was a folding magical map that revealed not only all of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but also, every classroom, every hallway, and every corner of the castle, with every inch of the grounds, as well as all the secret passages that are hidden within its walls. Creepily enough, it also the location of every person in the grounds, portrayed by a dot with the label of the person’s name. What would you do to have that in real life! But no, our little cafe will have a menu that opens and closes in the same folded manner as the Marauder’s Map, has the same colour and provides the same fonts and illustration for menu items, all stamped with little footprints of the same kind as were there in the map.

5) Cauldrons and Wand-Spoons

This could be easily arranged for the dishes that are savoury or have a soupy finish, that is, gravy so it comes to your table with its smoky flames (for sizzlers, at least) and you can eat out of it after stirring in small extra ingredients like salt or pepper as per your taste, just like students at Hogwarts used to do in the Potions class. To make things even dreamy, our cafe can have spoons, forks and other such cutlery items in the form of wands- with different choices for different people. Let’s not leave any details neglected!

4) Photo-booth

Honestly, even you know that the cafe is incomplete without different installations showing different important instances from the movie, like the Trio sitting together outside Hagrid’s House, Harry catching his first snitch, Hermione with Krum (and Ron, maybe), Harry in the last scene with Voldemort or simply, Dumbledore with his shiny silvery beard standing on the eagle table from where he used to make announcements in the Great hall. All these can be then used as photo booths for Potterheads to come and capture memory, maybe sitting with Harry on his broom, catching the snitch! (Swoon!!)

3) Books and Games

The cafe should be filled with all the Harry Potter books, not only the seven arts but also others like “Fantastic Beasts and where to Find Them”, “Hogwarts, a History”, etc, with a background music of songs like the Hedwig’s theme playing, so that people can refresh their memories using the same. Screenings of the movie should happen weekly at a certain time, with special tickets for the same and the tables should be filled with games that are themed around the magical world of Harry Potter. We know we would kill for that!

2) Hogwarts Express Entry tickets

Seeing that this cafe would be one of a kind, it should have something that makes it exclusive- and what can be better than the Platform 93/4 tickets to the Hogwarts Express to show exclusivity? The entry should be according to the ticket number that customers will have. To add to the fun, each customer should be given a black cloak to wear which can also serve as a napkin in case something splutters out of your magical food (like the food that Hagrid used to make).

1) Magical Food Items

To end this list, let’s come to the point of the entire cafe- the food. The food should not only be tasty and scrumptious, it sold also have names that are common to the Harry Potter World. The teas in the cafe can be named after the teas Hagrid used to make in the movie, the coffees and other hot drinks can be named after potions- like a soup that can aid to your sore throat can be called the Pepperup Potion, or the one that leaves you intoxicated as the Love Potion. The other signature dishes that are must-haves in the menu should be Butter Beer, Hagrid’s Rock Cakes, Cockroach Clusters (don’t worry they are just roaches made of chocolate), Mrs. Dursley’s Pudding and Corned Beef sandwiches, Chocolate Frogs, Knickerbocker Glory (the sweet dish Dudley left and Harry got to eat), Pumpkin Pasties, Cauldron Cakes, Hogwarts Steak And Kidney Pie, Treacle Tart, which was Harry’s favorite, making it the Chosen Dessert.

All in all, we know that this dreamy article made you imagine the almost recreation of the magical land we crave to be in, and if we were persuasive enough, who knows that one of you might be a proud owner of this cafe somewhere in five years? Make sure to invite us because we are waiting for this spell to work!
