The Deep Storage Project believes that there will come a day 500 years, or maybe 100,000 years from now where humans could be an endangered species. The corrosion-resistant stainless-steel surface and lack of oxygen at such depths will keep the star’s polish intact for millennia, so it might one day catch the light from a passing watercraft.
