Is this the fall of AOL?
by Aayush
AOL recently released their second quarter 2010 earnings report and from what the report says, it doesn’t look good for AOL. AOL has been continuously been transitioning from it’s monthly subscription model to an advertising model, but the advertising model did them more bad than good. In 2001 AOL reported their subscription count up to be 30 million of which they have now lost more than 85%.
AOL’s revenues when been down by $110 million, every segment has been down. Income from continuing operation is down 40% compared to last year. AOL advertisements have done badly probably due to the falling number of AOL users.
In a desperate attempt to catch up with the market, AOL has finally released a mobile optimized version which aggregates the best of AOL at m.aol.com. AOL only seems good at one their businesses, as a blog network company owning many successful blogs.
