This is a step-by-step tutorial for Jailbreaking your iPhone 3G using redsn0w 0.9.5b5 on your Windows pc. The tutorial will take you through each step as you jailbreak your apple iPhone 3G device and install iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3G.

Complete step-by-step guide to unlock/jailbreak iOS 4.0 on your iPhone 3G using redsn0w 0.9.5b5

Step #1

Backup your iPhone data by right clicking on your device name in iTunes 9.2 and then select backup so that your contacts and other important personal settings or data is stored on your pc. All the Backup data will be restored to your device when the Jailbreak is complete

Step #2

After the Backup process is completed, hold down the “Shift Key” on your Keyboard and click on restore. This will open a pop-up window where you will be prompted to select a firmware file. Select the file iOS4.0 firmware(should be .ipsw format) which you had downloaded earlier and click open. This will start the restore procedure which will take a few minutes. Wait for the restore procedure to be completed…

Step #3

After the restore is complete iTunes will show an error message that your SIM card is not supported. Ignore it as you can still unlock your iPhone 3G for normal use, simply follow the rest of the steps below.

Step #4

Now extract the Redsn0w package which you had downloaded earlier, now open the extracted file and run it. During this process iTunes will automatically shutdown or we recommend you to close it manually. This will open the redsn0w interface and then you need to select “Browse” from the interface where you must select the local firmware file downloaded earlier. Redsn0w will then verify the file and move on to the next window, Click “Next” and continue. The Hong-Xue Patch will now operate so please be patient until the procedure is completed.

Step #5

Redsn0w will now check whether your iPhone is connected to your pc with the data cable, make sure it is connected. Now Turn off your iPhone and then click “Next” on the Redsn0w interface you will then be asked to check list the programs you want to install on your device.
In accordance with the interface, your iPhone will enter DFU mode here are a few steps you need to follow,

• Press the Power Button on the top-right corner for 3 seconds
• Hold the Power Button and then also press the Home Button along with it for 10 seconds
• Release the Power Botton and keep the Home Button pressed for 30 seconds

Step #6

When your iPhone is in DFU mode, redsn0w will upload the files to Jailbreak your iPhone. This will take 5-10 minutes so you need not disconnect your iPhone or operate it during the process.

After the process is complete you would have successfully Jailbreaked your iPhone 3G using redsn0w 0.9.5b5 on Windows.
