Giving free Internet to everyone in Mountain View wasn’t good enough, Now the Internet giant has announced on their official blog that they are planning to build and test a broadband network with speed as high as 1 GB/sec on experimental basis and make it available to at least 50,000 people or more.

They posted on their official blog:

We’re planning to build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the United States. We’ll deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. We plan to offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.

Google already provides free citywide WiFi in Mountain View but a giga/sec broadband speed is BIG. Google says it will be available at competitive prices. They also published that the purpose of this project is to experiment and learn.
