We are all living in the Social Media age, everyone is trying to make their official interactions better in real-time. Organizations are allowing their employees to use their official accounts and names to post tweets, have interactions with customers and to create & maintain their online presence. In this accelerated environment it’s almost impossible to make sure, no employee ever says anything displeasing with their official accounts.

Vodafone On Twitter

A similar incident seems to have brought VodafoneUK under scrutiny, after a customer service employee broadcast an offensive tweet to Vodafone’s 9000+ followers from VodafoneUK’s official twitter account, which the company uses to handle customer complaints.

The individual is said to have greeted the followers with a tweet that read:

“VodafoneUK is fed up of dirty homo’s and is going after beaver”.

Vodafone customers suspected the account to be hacked and were in contact with Vodafone via twitter within minutes to confirm. Vodafone later apologised replying to each user individually releasing a message that read:

“We weren’t hacked. A severe breach of rules by staff in our building, dealing with that internally. We’re very sorry”.

A Company Spokesman said:

“An individual posted an obscene remark on the Vodafone UK Twitter account, The individual has been suspended pending further notice.”
