Windows 7: Serious Battery Issues
by AayushWith Windows 7, Microsoft may have got it right the second time, but it’s not completely impeccable. Stories of battery problems with Laptops are flooding in from all angles. Windows Support Forums have numerous threads regarding this issue by Windows 7 users complaining that Windows 7 has severely reduced their available battery life.
It is still unclear and unconfirmed by any official source, if the software is showing a false warning or not, but Windows really sucking the battery dead is unlikely. The issue is supposedly caused by a new tool designed to alert users when their battery needs replacing. In some cases there are warnings that the machine may suddenly shutdown while the machine continues to run but in other cases it seems the system does suddenly shutdown.
This issue isn’t a new one and the complaints have been reported ever since the RC was released. 8 months since then and there is no update or patch from Microsoft regarding the problem.
Official Statement from Microsoft said:
“We are investigating this issue in conjunction with our hardware partners. The warning received in Windows 7 uses firmware(BIOS) information to determine if battery replacement is needed. We are working with our partners to determine the root cause and will update with information and guidance as it becomes available.”
